 About Us

With 20 years in education, Mahota Preschool embraces nature and pioneers a pedagogy derived from the insights of the interconnectedness of the world we live in. Our nature-inspired curriculum emulates nature in its diversity and richness, both in its programs and its methodologies. We strive to develop the mind, body and spirit of the child, encouraging, in the process, the child’s development in eco-consciousness and eco-literacy.

The program, from Playgroup to K2, addresses the physical, emotional, and intellectual capacities of the developing child through an age-appropriate curriculum that integrates the disciplines of movement and arts into the study of languages, sciences and mathematics. Through the development of these capacities, we strive to educate the whole child in a healthy and balanced manner.

Who We Are:

Mahota Preschool is established to provide a high quality, comprehensive educational experience that supports each student’s academic, social, and emotional development and prepares them to be global citizens who are school, college, career and life ready.

Where We Want to Be:

Mahota Preschool aspires to be a school that draws out the inner potential of every child, to be a school that is enjoyable to teach in and invigorating to learn in, to be a school that graduates a future generation of capable, committed people around the whole who are ready for the challenges facing us. We want to achieve this consciously — thinking and acting together in a way that builds our own collective capacity and awareness.

What We Believe In:

  • Sharing brings out the best in each and every one of us
  • Symbiosis underpins the foundation of our inter-connectedness and interdependency
  • Integrity constitutes the strength of our character
  • Sense of responsibility ensures that we pursue our common future with sustainability of the community and environment in mind.

Incorporating nature in our daily learning through:

Purposeful Learning - Setting goals, the children clarify what they want to get out of class. They are more self-directed and purposeful in their learning and more efficient with their time. According to research, children who set goals tend to be more persistent learners and more likely to achieve their educational goals. Thus, teaching the children to be more independent and resilience to failure and difficulties. Example, the children will be given a project such as collecting rainwater. The children will come up with questions, ways to collect the water and how to measure. Discovery Learning - Discovering answers to their questions through investigation and hands-on experience with materials, building their questioning, critical-thinking skills and confidence, and enhance the children understanding of key academic concepts. Experiential Learning - Learning through experience, and is more specifically defined as "learning through reflection on doing". Hands-on learning is a form of experiential learning but does not necessarily involve students reflecting on their product. Co-operative learning – Working in groups to foster team work. Charity work: through flag day, our year-end charity fair where the children will run stalls selling products they made themselves and donate parts of the proceeds made from the fair to an adopted charity organisation. This also helps children in communication skills and social skills. Mixed-age Learning– Creating an opportunity for mixed-age learning and fostering empathy and compassion among them during circle time, play and meal time. The older children can help serve the younger ones. Value Learning – Giving opportunities to identify, clarify and express their values. The children are taught to greet, share and respect each other through the celebration of different festivals and racial harmony day. Open-ended questions Learning – Structuring questions so that multiple/complex answers are possible: Children do not simply steer towards one “right” answer. More creativity. Example when we tell them a story, we can ask them for to predict the possible outcomes and their reasons. Inter-disciplinary Learning – Enabling children to make connections across learning through exploring clear and relevant links across the curriculum. It supports the use and application of what has been taught and learned in new and different ways. It provides opportunities for deepening learning, for example through answering big questions, exploring an issue, solving problems or completing a final project. Example: through speech and drama, the children can learn the life cycle of a plant. They will do bodily movement to emulate the growth of the plant towards the sun, learn the number days to grow, pick up vocabulary and colours and shapes of the plant.

Overview & Approach

At Mahota Preschool, we adopt the experiential based curriculum that incorporates relevant, interdisciplinary learning to enhance the child’s language, thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Our carefully planned curriculum will focus on the development of basic skills such as reading, writing, numeracy, music and motor development that will prepare your child for formal schooling. We offer programme from Playgroup to Kindergarten. The curriculum of each programme has been meticulously planned and designed.   Our school is equipped with engaging toys and books to allow the children to explore and experiment in a safe and conducive environment. The children are strongly encouraged to explore independently during dedicated lesson time as well as during free play.   03_eng-mathCultivate SocialPersonal Development-

English Literacy

The Rigby Star Phonics programme from the United Kingdom will empower the children to start reading real stories after being taught just 8 phonemes. This programme will be introduced in K1 and K2. Basic phonics will be taught from PG to prepare them for the Rigby Star Phonics Programme.

The children will develop a far more concrete foundation than just basic numbers taught in traditional classrooms through hands-on activities using Mathematics teaching materials like sandpaper numbers and everyday objects. Your child will be provided opportunities to apply what they have learnt through play. The Numero® program, a numeracy card game from Australia is used to assist in the children numeracy and problem-solving skills.

Cultivate Social/Personal Development

Besides the academic aspect, we also look into character building, social and interaction skills. Students will work together to solve problems during play or even group projects. Positive attitude will be enforced through games and play time. The students will engage in the “Farm to School” is also a urban farming project where they will grow their vegetables.
